"For a touch of whimsy -- and a glimpse of the
future, too -- Atelier Daguerre offers a cup

want to reread Graham Greene’s Travels With My Aunt." |

SEATTLE BRIDE
Mind Your Manners
Spring/Summer, 2006
Had it up to here with the antiquated do's and don'ts of wedding etiquette? These hemstitched linen pillowcases will remind you how far we've come. Printed with tips from a Victorian etiquette manual, they dispense such advice as "The very corpulent should unite with the thin and spare."

Shopping tip of the day:
"Quite the dish"
November 7, 2005
Gardening may be on hold until spring, but there's no reason to wait until then to visit Derby Farm Flowers & Gardens in Arlington Center. Owner and landscape designer Barbara Hall Popolow sells items for the home, some of which help you brush up on natural history and etiquette. Natural history dessert plates ($12 each) and glasses ($8 each, above) are decorated with animals such as the jerboa, a jumping rodent, and the first letter of their names. Etiquette bowls offer advice like: "Never explain at the table why certain foods do not agree with you." ($12 each).

Gentle reminders
September 15, 2005
Surely we know how to wash our face and clean our teeth. But did you know this: ''All the crevices of the ears should be thoroughly cleaned daily and ear wax carefully removed when it shows itself"? That's just one of the gentle and oh-so-civilized reminders daintily printed on Abigail Hamilton and Richard Thompson's Atelier Daguerre bathroom accessories. Formally trained fine artists who are partners in life and business, their goal is to provide goods that are ''a genuinely valuable contribution to society."
